Book Review: The Land Flipper: Turning Dirt into Dollars

(Note: Recently, I’ve had a lot of folks contact me asking what the difference between some of Lonnie’s as well as other mobile home investing materials out there and which one I’d recommend the most. So, I’ve decided to go ahead and start a new series of posts – book reviews.)

If you’re a subscriber to my newsletter, you’ll know I’ve talked a lot about my interest in purchasing land. Like I’ve mentioned in prior posts, there’s a lot of hype about buying mobile home parks. People selling the idea don’t always tell you the whole story.

But buying land (and placing mobile homes on them!) isn’t talked about as much as buying entire parks. It seems to me buying land can be somewhat under the radar. Which may be a good thing.

So I picked up this book on the subject. Here are my thoughts:

What I Liked About the Book

It was simple and easy to follow.

Being that I don’t have much experience as a land buyer, the author spoke in simple terms. I found it very easy to read and follow. No large terms or word usage. Reading the book made it seem like the author was right there with me explaining the land business.

The author did not hype up the land investing business.

Even with over 30 years of land investing experience, the author kept it real. He did not hype up the land investing business as some great “get rich quick” opportunity. Nor did he try to sell you on the idea of investing in land.

It told you what you needed to know based on experience.

What the author did was lay out the exact process he uses to buy and sell land. He backs up his statements with personal experiences of what works and what has not worked. As a reader, I appreciate this because what’s said in theory can be completely different from what actually works in the real world.

The author includes an entire chapter on building your team.

Like the mobile home investing business, your network can make or break your success. Having a team of professionals willing and able to help you achieve your goals is important. An entire chapter is dedicated in this book to building your team and the types of team members you need to have in the land investing business.

Conclusion

Since I have an interest in buying land (and placing mobile homes on them!), this book definitely helped me to see the process on the buying end as well as the selling end.

The author’s writing style was easy to read and follow. I felt he only included what you needed to know and didn’t fluff it up. I appreciated the step-by-step chapters on each topic (i.e. buying, selling, negotiation, building your team, etc.) as it helped me to see what was involved in the land investing business.

If you’re looking for a good book on the subject of land investing, definitely check it out!

(Note: At the time of this writing, I am taking a course on land investing. Will be writing up a review on it. Be sure you’ve grabbed my free book and signed up for the newsletter for the latest updates and news. Stay tuned!)

Have you ever thought about investing in land? Or have you already done it? Let me know. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I hope you enjoyed reading this book review. With the high amount of requests for my opinions on these, it’s something that I’ve decided to start doing from time to time.

Happy investing!
