Blast From the Past: Where Have All the Real Estate Investing Blogs Gone?

Blast From the Past: Where Have All the Real Estate Investing Blogs Gone?

When I first started blogging (over a decade ago!), there were a lot of real estate investing blogs. So lately, I’ve been wondering: Where have all the real estate investing blogs gone?

My First Blog Post

If you’ve been a long time reader and subscriber of my blog, you’ll remember my first blog post. I decided to start a blog in order to share my stories and adventures as a real estate investor.

(Note: If you’re new to the blog, be sure to grab my FREE book and subscribe to my newsletter for the latest news and updates. Thanks for reading!)

As I wrote more and more blog posts, I became friends with other real estate investor bloggers. I even wrote a few guest posts. (Here’s one of my earliest articles on mobile home investing.) And got on social media. Remember that?

Early Collaborations

By getting to know other real estate investor bloggers, I was invited to collaborate on a few projects. Here’s one of my earliest ones:

But after a while, I noticed many real estate investor blogs just kind of dwindled down. There were less and less blog posts. Some to the point where there just wasn’t anything new being written. And even some, closed down. But why?

Change of Focus

Some real estate investor bloggers just had a change in focus. They decided to do something else. Real estate investing no longer played a big role in their lives. Even some had life changes. Perhaps they needed to dedicate more time to their family. And lacked the time to write about their real estate investing experiences.

Change of Venue

Other real estate investor bloggers just didn’t have it in them to continue writing blog post after blog post on their websites. Instead, they focused on sharing their stories and experiences in other venues such as public speaking. These real estate investors seldom write on their blogs anymore (if they still exist). Instead, you can see them speak at various real estate investing conferences and local real estate investment club meetings.

Change of Heart

Some real estate investor bloggers just had a chance of heart. Simply put: They just didn’t want to write about their real estate investing experiences anymore. Sure, they continued to invest in real estate. But writing about it (and even making videos), took up a lot of time and energy. It was fun in the beginning. But after a while, blogging became a chore. So they stopped.

Real Estate Investing Blogs: Where Are They Now?

So where are all the real estate investing blogs? And what happened to them?

If you’re curious like I am, you’ll find them listed at BiggerPockets: The Top 20 Real Estate Investing Blogs. There are old blogs there and new ones listing the inactive and the active. And guess who made the cut for “The Top 20 Real Estate Investing Blogs” still being “active?” Adventures in Mobile Homes. Hooray!!

Real Estate Investing Blogs I Read

Though many of the early real estate investing blogs I knew are no longer around, I still read a few. Here’s a list of real estate investing blogs I read:

1. BiggerPockets

They’ve been around for awhile. In fact, I was one of the earliest forum members when they first started out. Their blog provides a wealth of knowledge and experience from a variety of real estate investors in different niches. Many of the real estate investing bloggers I knew once wrote for them. They churn out content consistently. Definitely worth a look!

2. Afford Anything

Though not only a real estate investing blog (more focused about the FIRE movement), I really enjoy Paula Pant’s philosophy and style of writing. Once a professional journalist, she documents not only her experiences as a real estate investor but also about life and what financial independence can bring. She also has a great podcast. Check her out!

3. REtipster

This blog came a few years after mine. I remember Seth Williams (the blog author) commenting on my blog in the early days. So I checked his blog out. And it’s definitely come a long way. Primarily a land investor, Seth offers a lot of great information for real estate investors on his blog. There’s something always interesting and new I come across on his blog and YouTube videos. Worth a read!

4. Semi-Retired MD

If you’re a long-time subscriber and you’ve read this article I wrote a while back, you’ll know of my ties to the medical community. So I’ve been reading a lot of medical professional blogs (primarily by other physicians). Semi-Retired MD is one of them which has a slight focus on real estate investing. Personally, I’ve enjoyed reading the experiences in real estate investing from this particular physician. Very informative and educational. Visit the site!

5. Guy On FIRE

Another blog dedicated to the FIRE movement, this blog also talks about the experiences in real estate investing from Guy On FIRE (the blog author). The stories are interesting to read. I also enjoy reading “The Landlord Report” blog posts which details the author’s portfolio including income and expenses for each real estate investment property. Read the site!

Conclusion

Even though many of the real estate investing blogs I knew when I first started blogging have moved on or are no longer around, there are still a few good real estate investing blogs out there. As a full-time real estate investor and author, it’s very hard for me to read all of them. But I do read a few good ones from time to time.

Do you have a favorite real estate investing blog? Definitely let me know.

Hope you enjoyed this article on my trip down memory lane as real estate investing blogger. Thanks for reading!
