Happy New Year!

Stories and adventures about my experience investing in mobile homes.

Happy New Year!

Hi Everyone!

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve written. Thought I’d give you all an update. Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

Been Sick and Traveling

Over the holidays, I took a trip to visit family and friends in CA. It was nice to see everyone and catch up. I will say, it has been a warm winter. Without the cold, it doesen’t seem like winter at all!

Unfortunately towards the end of the trip, I got sick. Not fun. And when I get sick, I get really sick.

So I’m just getting back from being sick and traveling. And the worst part about being sick? Traveling while being sick. Just glad to be back and well again! 🙂

Continuing Work on My Last Fix-Up Project

While away, I’ve continued work on my last fix-up project from one of the homes I’ve taken back. Though I was out of the area, my handyman was able to work on the home while I was away. One of the perks of knowing how to hire and manage contractors. 🙂

(Note: If you’d like to learn more about how to hire and work with contractors, I write more about it here. Thanks for reading!)

Since all of my other homes are filled, it’s less of a strain financially. Having multiple properties sit empty while you work on them and pay lot rent can add up. It’ll be nice once this last one is done and filled.

Planning to Buy Land

As mentioned here and in my newsletter, I’m planning to buy land in the future for my mobile home investing business. By owning the land where the homes are placed, I’ll have more control (versus just owning the homes and paying lot rent on someone else’s land).

(Note: If you’re interested, you can learn more about my mobile home investing model here. Thanks for reading!)

Recently, I took a course on land investing which taught me the ropes and inspired me to look into this investment strategy.

Writing and Working on a New Book

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of writing and working on a new book. If you’re subscribed to my newsletter, I’ve talked about almost finishing it up. I’ve got a few more edits until it can go to my editor. The new book is a continuation of my Real Estate Investing Sucksseries of books.

(Note: If you’re interested, you can check out my books here. Thanks for reading!)

Other than the book, I’ve written a few articles and have been featured on other sites. Here are the most recent:

Wealthy Nickel — “Money Goals – 30+ Experts Share Their 2019 Resolutions”

Think Save Retire — “Blogger Confessions #14: Rachel from Adventures in Mobile Homes”

I have a few others lined up as well. Be sure you’re subscribed to my newsletter for the latest updates!

Other than the book and the articles, I’ve also been spending some time answering real estate related questions on Quora. Feel free to check out my profile for the latest answers.

Watching Movies and Playing Video Games

Apart from travel and work, I’ve also been watching movies and playing video games.

Recently, I saw Mary Poppins Returns. As a kid, I loved the original movie. So it was nice to see the sequel. Definitely worth watching!

Other than watching movies, I’ve also been playing video games. As a kid, I grew up with them. And coming back to it brings back memories!

The latest game I’ve been playing is Mario Tennis Aces. If you read my newsletter, you’ll know that tennis is one of my hobbies. So it’s been fun playing tennis off the court (via the video game) as well as on the court!

Looking Forward

With the fix up work on my homes almost completed, I’m really looking forward to 2019. It’s been a lot of work building up my mobile home investing business and maintaining it. It definitely has its ups and downs!

Getting through the flood was one of the hardest and most challenging things I’ve had to do in my life. And taking back multiple homes from residents who decide to leave without notice all at the same time didn’t help either.

Though, I did gain the experience especially when it comes to hiring and managing contractors. (I even wrote a book on the subject!)

But despite all the hardships, it’s worth it. I’ve built up a business which has allowed me to do the things I want to do, not have to do. Sure, I still need to maintain it regularly (which I’ve learned the hard way!). Though I’m able to focus on other hobbies and interests as well.

It will be interesting to see what 2019 will bring. Feel free to let me know what you’ve been up to lately. If you need help with anything mobile home related, I do offer mentoring to those who need it. Thanks for coming along for the ride!

Happy Investing!
